Is Mrs. Poteat (I forget the
spelling), my 12th grade English teacher still alive? I will never
forget her. She taught us how to write a Resume! I still have the
example she gave out. I'm always telling friends how she really
cared about us. I would love for her to know that! I also speak
about Mrs. Elliot and Mrs. Garner too! Mrs. Garner drove us around
in order for us to fill out applications for a job! These were
tools taught by them for our future! I had signed up for State
Tech at that time, but God's plan changed everything for me. I got
married to my wonderful Class Sweetheart, had our baby and moved
to another country. I couldn't have planned it any better than
that. The Air Force really is a great way of life. I forgot about
Mr. Apple. We love him!

This is for you former Tech High
teachers. I hope many of you will see this. It comes from the
heart and is a result of many real life experiences. I was
reminiscing in the Tech website a little bit ago when it occurred
to me that I owe you all a debt for which there is only one
payment: Thank you. It is all that I have as payment.
Appreciation, gratitude, understanding all seem so menial, but it
is all I have, especially to those of you who taught me. I have
been teaching in the public arena for 20 years. Until I started
teaching, it was impossible to understand the issues with which
you good people had to deal and the mentality of the students you
encountered. After all, I was too much like them. Today's students
are likely much worse than those with whom you worked, but
nonetheless, we were sometimes unappreciative and painfully
obnoxious. Of course, we may have often felt that you were the
problem. I am so grateful to you all for putting your foot down
and insisting that we learn. You taught us principles of mental
discipline that are ongoing. You told us that this would help us
later when all we could understand was the now. Who could imagine
how Shakespeare could fall into this category and yet I now enjoy
reading his works more now than when I was a student. (I just
finished Hamlet, again, last week.) I know that teachers today
also care, but you were the best and I hope that I have been a
tribute to all of you in a most positive way. Please accept my
gratitude and undying love for what you tried to do for me because
now, at age 57, I understand more clearly. Thank you and may God
bless you all.

people in high school. I really enjoyed the football and
basketball games.
Steve Wright, I do remember you from football, but also from
Spanish class. You had such a good sense of humor.

Hi I graduated
early in 1978 but my true class would have been 1979. I was the
class Valedictorian of 1978. I'm hopeful that someone is
planning a 30th class reunion. I currently live in Aurora, CO
but I come home to Memphis quite often and was just there over
the Thanksgiving Holiday. I would like to be included in notices
for any events for both of my classes. I think this is a
wonderful site and want to thank all of those that made it
possible. I lost my year book and so it's nice to be able to

Hi to all my
fellow Tech high graduates and friends........
and a special note to Corney Nelson Pittman....... thank you
for sharing the story about your dad and Mr. Highsaw. I need to
correct one item in your story. Mr. Highsaw did not die in
Washington D.C. He passed away while visiting his son (Dr.
Robert B. Highsaw) in Tuscaloosa Alabama. Our Principal was 74
years old. What you may have been remembering is that after he
retired as Tech's principal in 1957 he then went on to become a
librarian of the U.S. House of Representatives, and he was
working in Washington D.C......... but was not there when he
died. For a complete obituary see The Memphis Press Scimitar
dated 3-12-1962 or the Commercial Appeal dated 3-12-1962.

I say again that
which I have said before, Thank you, Gene and all others who
have worked so hard to develop and maintain this web site. I
check it every week or two for new messages which may have been
posted by those whom I knew "when I wore a younger man's
clothes". (apology to the Piano Man, Billy Joel). My dad (Coach
Wright) and I were discussing the other day where Coach John
McGregor may now be residing. I lost track of him when he left
Forrest City, AR. Hello to Ray Driggers and all others of the
class of '66.

Gene,
The web site is so great. I thought that I was the only one who
thought of Tech and my time there all theses years. Tech has a
special place in my heart.
The teachers (Ray Ford, Carolyn Elliott, Betty Hendon, Mr.
Wilhelm, Mr Bourne, Katie Macdonald, Daisy Kirk, Mr. D,and Mrs
Anderson) were all interested in the students.
Thanks for helping everyone enjoy Tech High again.

If any of you are
interested, RE: Mr.Highsaw our beloved
principal, died in Washington D.C. on March 11,1962
His body was returned to Memphis Funeral Home formerly on
Union Ave. on March 13, 1962. He is buried in Memphis, TN.This
date I can remember, for he died the same day/year as my father.
Also two of my sisters graduated from Tech
Eula Nelson '39, Virginia Nelson '44. Both are still living,
Eula in Boynton Beach, Fl. and Ginny in Memphis. TN.

Hello to all of
my class mates in the year 1966.
I would especially like to say hello to the "Hollywood Group"
that was in Hollywood Elementary School: Paula Whitten, Beverly
Ledford, Judy Kellum, Regina Tedford, Margaret Alford, Mary
Hellen Berry, Byron Stafford just to name a few. We were
together before Tech. Over the years I have come to realize how
much your friendship meant to me. Your families and each of youm
gave me "the Family" that I did not have. So Thank you all
because sometime you never know what you meant to someone.
I just learned of this Web site. WOW. It is so great. I have
alot of things to send and share. I have alot of the Newspapers,
press clippings, photos etc. of us at Tech.
I live in Kentucky now but I do miss Memphis. Thanks to all of
you for the help and friendship you gave over the years. I still
have you all in my thoughts and my heart.
