CURTIS PASCHALL MAYNARD, 86, of Memphis, went home to the Lord on October 21, 2010 battling Alzheimer’s disease. Born November 24, 1923 in Ripley, TN to Theodore Roosevelt and Estelle Hale Maynard, he will be remembered for his life and trust in his Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ. He lived what he taught: focus on the Lord and not your problems. The family will receive friends on Sunday, October 24, from 3 p.m.- 6 p.m. at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens on Poplar Avenue. Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 25, beginning at 1 p.m. at First Evangelical Church in Memphis on Ridgeway Loop. Mr. Maynard was a WWII Army veteran, thirty seven year insurance agent for Allstate Insurance, member of the Tristate Woodworkers Guild (his creations include the offering boxes at First Evangelical Church), Memphis Civitan Club, Volunteer for the Tennessee Special Olympics, gold, silver and bronze medal winner for tennis at the Tennessee Senior Olympics, and an avid fisherman. Mr. Maynard was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years Margaret Ellen Smith Maynard. He is survived by his daughter Ellen Hale of Holland, MI and Amy Maynard Pidgeon (J. Everett Pidgeon, III) of Germantown, TN; grandchildren Brent W. Pidgeon, Jordan R. Pidgeon and Kelsey A. Pidgeon; sister, Estelle Maynard Taylor (Thomas Leon Taylor) of Denton, TX; sister-in-law Bonnie Savage and brother-in-law (Dr.) Arthur “Dutch” Savage of The Plains, OH; nephews Thomas Leon Taylor, Jr. of Deaton, TX and Kent Savage of Cummings, GA; and his niece Leslie Savage of Durham, N.C. The family wishes to thank the staff of Kirby Pines and especially the staff at Job’s Way for their gentle, respectful care. A special thank you to Crossroads Hospice who provided outstanding care.
